Whispering Angel & the Chateau d’Esclans Roses

We are delighted to be offering Whispering Angel and the rest of Sacha Lichine's famous rosés from Château d’Esclans.

The weather and maturity of the grapes confirmed predictions of an exceptional vintage. The condition of the grapes was excellent and harvesting began in the first days of September and finished at the end of the month. Patrick and his son, Bertrand Léon, now Technical Director at Caves d’Eslcans, describe the wine as, “Very pale [in colour], with slightly orange reflections and an expressive nose with an abundance of freshness. The palate follows through with citrus notes ‒ fresh but without aggressiveness or acidity. The 2016 vintage of Whispering Angel is balanced, smooth, round and supple, unusually fresh for a rosé and with plenty of minerality on the finish.”

All these Roses are simply the best in their category….

Rock Angel Rosé, Château d’Esclans 2016 IN BOND

Rock Angel Rosé, Château d’Esclans 2016 IN BOND

Rock Angel is a very serious Rose in it’s own right and similar to good white Burgundy in complexity and style. It ticks all the boxes - it is crisp and refreshing with extraordinary depth of character and very impressive length. Alongside the summer fruits and mineral acidity there is a wonderful smokiness, with hints of toasted almonds and a mouthwatering creaminess. This is glorious now and will age gracefully over the next few years. The 2016 vintage is very, very good. "An engaging freshness with vibrant red fruits. Succulent, precise and pure palate...minerality shines through and the gently silky texture is charming. Enjoy now." Top 10 Rosés from around the World, 92 Points Decanter (on the 2015 vintage)
