Sauternes: Haut Charmes 2010

A tiny parcel of the surplus production from the most famous of all Sauternes vineyards. The Château does not make a second sweet wine, so this is made with the same noble grapes as the Grand Vin—which are picked individually on 7-10 separate occasions as the botrytis sets in—and are then aged in oak at the Château. 2009 was one of the great Sauternes vintages and the Grand Vin produced a legendary wine that will be talked about for decades. It will though currently cost you £500+ for a single 75cl bottle. This however is nectar at a very affordable price.

37.5cl bottle: £15.95

Case of 12 37.5cl bottles: £191.40

Our Tasting Notes

Pale gold with an extraordinary complex nose of summer fruits, peaches and apricots. Rich and concentrated - it drinks exceptionally well now and will last for at least another 10 years.

"A fabulous sweet wine from the most famous vineyards in Sauternes. Ok, so it’s not as concentrated, complex or unctuous as the Grand Vin, but its pedigree is impeccable and it’s utterly delicious, honeyed and delicate. The estate doesn’t make a so-called second wine, so I guess you could say this was it." - Jonathan Ray, The Spectator
