Terra Noble Carmenere Gran Reserva
Maule Valley
2009
NEWCarmenere is an exceptional grape, blending the fruit and elegance of Merlot with the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon. Chile, and in particular the cooler Maule valley, is where the best examples are found and this Gran Reserva, from Terra Noble, is the best we’ve tasted by far. Robert Parker gave the previous vintage 92—and we expect a similar rating for the excellent 2009—remarkable for a wine of this price but not for this quality.
Our tasting notes
Dark rich purple colour. Lots of black berries, figs and indian spice on the nose. Very rich and smooth on the palette with silky hints of chocolate, coffee and ripe blackberries. Very long, well-structured wine.Wine data

About Carmenere
Carmenere used to be very widely grown in Bordeaux and apparently in the 18th Century was used by many of the best Chateaux. Now it is something of a rarity in France and instead is at its best across the Atlantic in Chile. Carmenere does, as Jancis Robinson says, have “the potential to make very fine wines, combining some of the charm of Merlot with the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon.”
