Our tasting notes

Deep, dark, bright red with a flowery, fruit filled nose. Great flavours—chewy, rich, ripe berry fruits, with a touch of sweetness. Hints of vanilla, coconut and chocolate—from its 8 months in French oak barrels. Well made wine in all respects—more finesse than a good Rioja.

About Crianza

Crianza is a Spanish term for ageing and is its newest officially recognised category for wine from oak barrels. A Crianza red wine may not be sold until its third year and it must have spent 6 months in oak barricas (300 bottle barrels).

The first vine in what is now the region protected by the Denominación de Origen Ribera del Guadiana (translates as "the Shore of the Guadiana") was cultivated as early as 6,000 B.C., possibly in the Mesopotamian Age, but the production really began to take off during the Roman Period, when the first professionals began to specialize in the production of Ribera del Guardiana.

During the 19th and 20th centuries, the province of Extremadura began to produce Ribera del Guadiana, primarily in Tierra de Barros. Over the last few years, enormous investments have been made in the wine sector in Extremadura, substituting the grape-pressing systems, installing refrigeration to control fermentation, and constructing wine cellars for better aging processes.

These changes have led to the production of some superb and very modern wines.
