2009 Right Bank Mixed Case

Our favourite 2009s from St Emilion, Pomerol and Fronsac. These have higher a proportion of merlot to their left bank compatriots so tend to be softer, more fruit-driven and drinkable earlier. Three bottles of each wine and our En Primeur terms apply.

3 bottles Château La Tour Figeac, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classe 2009
Delicious biodynamic Grand Cru St Emilion from Otto Rottenmaier. Situated next to Figeac & Cheval Blanc on the St Emillion/Pomerol border. One of our very favourite wines from the Right Bank—very good indeed.

Robert Parker, 91-93: "This is certainly one of the top two or three wines I have ever tasted from this estate. Dense blue/plum-colored, with notes of blueberry, black raspberry, cherry, and currants, the wine displays some graphite, charcoal, and incense in a full-bodied, rich, silky, even voluptuous style, with oodles of fruit, concentration, and power, but wonderful freshness, which is again the paradoxical aspect of this vintage—massive concentration, but impressive freshness and elegance."

3 bottles Château de La Dauphine, Fronsac 2009
From the hugely underrated Fronsac this was one of the best wines we tasted in March. Excellent value from a beautiful Chateau. Drink 2014-2022.

Wine Spectator, 90-93: "Blackberry and blueberry galore on the nose. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and a beautiful finish. Rich, yet with finesse."

3 bottles Château Teyssier, St-Emilion Grand Cru 2009
Teyssier is owned and run by the dynamic larger than life Jonathan Maltus, producer of top St Emilion cult wine Le Dome (£1,000 a case+), with the assistance of Gilles Pauquet, oenologist at Cheval Blanc. A wine we have been following for some years. Delicious and one of our 'must have' 2009's that is exceptional value. Drink 2013—24.

Robert Parker, 89-91: "The 2009 Teyssier possesses a dense ruby/purple color as well as smoky barbecue notes intermixed with creme de cassis, black cherries, and earth. Ripe, generous, and medium to full-bodied, it should drink beautifully young yet age for 10-12+ years."

3 bottles Château Rouget Pomerol 2009
The best Pomerol we tasted at anything like an affordable price. This will be a fabulous wine.

Robert Parker, 91-93*: "The best Rouget I have ever tasted, the 2009 displays terrific aromas of kirsch liqueur and loamy soil as well as a plump, fat, luscious personality. With sensational concentration and purity, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and an enormous fruit character, this beauty should drink well for 15 or more years."
