Château Fayau | Bordeaux 1ere Côtes de Bordeaux

2005

A classic, elegant drinking claret from the outstanding 2005 vintage. Owned by the Medeville family this is one of the better 1ere Côtes de Bordeaux on the market and at less than £10 a bottle it is great value for money — and for a 2005. Drinking really well now.

Our tasting notes
Radiant raspberry red colour with an intensely fruity nose. A delightful complexity combining tastes of cherry, blackcurrant, vanilla and liquorice. It is well rounded with spice notes a long fruit-filled finish. Delicious. Drinking 2010 - 2014.

About Premières Côtes de Bordeaux:
The Premiè res Côtes extends for 40 miles from north of Bordeaux as far as Langon, sitting below the south western edge of the Entre-Deux Mers appellation. Soil here tends to be quite varied, with the most valuable gravelly terrain situated nearer the river. The Premières Côtes de Bordeaux encircles some of the best sweet wine appellations, from towns like Cadillac, Loupiac and Ste-Croix-du-Mont. The red wines of the region are predominantly Merlot grape and tend to be quite fruit driven. The producers here are known for their ambition and they often create concentrated red wines, which despite lacking the aging potential of their more famous neighbours tend to drink very well at 5 years old. Château Fayau is a 41 hectare estate just outside the town of Cadillac.
