1 bottle Serge Mathieu Tradition Brut Champagne NV
Discovered in an exclusive Right Bank Paris wine bar, Serge Mathieu's Champagne is a revelation and is what really good Champagne is all about. We thought when we first tasted it that it was a vintage Grande Marque Champagne. 2 stars in the Hachette Wine Guide—in our opinion it should be 3. This is a single grower Champagne made from Serge Mathieu's own grapes, and not bought in from scores of growers as the bigger brands are. It was awarded 5 stars in the May 2007 issue of Decanter Magazine and described as the 'Billecart-Salmon of grower champagnes.' 1 bottle Chablis Premier Cru Montmain White Burgundy 2005
There is an enormous difference between Chablis itself and a good Premier Cru Chablis grown on the upper slopes of the Chablis 'hill.' This is a great example and is what really good Chablis is all about—and there is no other wine like it in the world. 1 bottle Pouilly Fuissé "Margolliets" White Burgundy 2007
Good Pouilly Fuissé is very good, indeed the finest of all Macon (not to be confused with the Loire's Pouilly Fumé) and this is a classic example of really well-made Burgundian Chardonnay at its very best. The New World cannot make Chardonnay like this—and it is exceptional value for money 1 bottle La Réserve de Leoville Barton Bordeaux 2004
Made from the younger vines at the legendary 2nd growth Château Leoville Barton and 3rd growth Château Langoa Barton ('wine for the true claret connoisseur'—Robert Parker), owned by the Anglo-Irish Barton family since 1821. No more needs be said...terrific value. 1 bottle Château d'Angludet Margaux Bordeaux 2001
The Sichel family home and vineyard at d'Angludet in Margaux receives very special loving care and attention from the owners of Château Palmer and other vineyards—and produces wonderful wines from aged vines. The terroir at d'Angludet is why Bordeaux is centre of the fine wine industry—and always will be. Margaux normally produces more delicate and scented wines than its more northerly neighbours in the Medoc—and 2001 is a good, rich vintage, just beginning to drink really well now. This is a firm favourite of all of ours. 1 bottle Margaux Margaux Bordeaux 2005
Following on from the stunning Margaux 2004 we have bought a parcel of the 2005 of the same wine—declassified from one of the most famous Cru Classé in Margaux whose 2005 has been very highly rated by Robert Parker. 2005 is almost certainly the outstanding vintage of the last 30 years. This is very serious high class claret and at this price an unmissable bargain. It is very rich and hence drinking well already with another 20 years to go. 1 bottle Domaine de la Tourade “Cuvée de l’Euse” Vacqueyras 2005
A fine example from the most famous of the Côte du Rhône Villages and a wine made in a totally traditional way by the Richard family. Tiny production—we have taken as much as they will give us. 1 bottle Les Mines Priorat 2000
An exceptional wine from the lost world of Priorat—Spain 's finest and smallest wine-growing region which until a few years ago was almost inaccessible. 1 bottle Mirabel Extremadura 2006
A stunning wine from Extremadura that has set the world of Fine Wine alight—from Anders, the youngest star of the Vinding-Diers wine-making dynasty. This is a very fine wine—Mirabel is destined to become a cult and collectors wine and is a must-have for all serious wine lovers. Exceptional valu 1 bottle Domaine de Saint Paul Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2005
The Jeune family brings you this wonderful Domaine de Saint Paul from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the most famous wine-growing region of the Rhône. David’s final tasting note read "tastes damn good"—this says it all. The 2008 edition of the Hachette Wine Guide gives it 2 stars. Excellent value for good Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which normally costs at least £5 more a bottle 1 bottle Meursault “Flamoise” White Burgundy 2006
Good Meursault is difficult to find at under £300 a case—let alone £250 a case. The Janny family only produce this golden nectar in very small quantities. 1 bottle Aloxe-Corton “Beloix” Côte de Beaune 2006
After the success of the 2005 the Janny family have let us have all the 2006 vintage—only 75 cases—from the tiny Beloix vineyard of 1/2 hectare. The 2004 & 2005 vintages sold out very quickly indeed so we don’t expect this to last long. This is wonderfully rich, ripe, very fine red Burgundy that is drinking well now and will continue to improve for another 5 years. The 2006 vintage is very good indeed. We would have taken 10 times this amount had it been made. A spectacular tiny parcel of great red Burgundy that would normally command a far higher price—exceptional value.
