Clos des Juillys | Saint-Véran
2006
BIN ENDThis St-Véran, made in the vaulted cellars of a small Louis XIV chateau, is we think quite exceptional. It gets the top rating, a "coup de coeur", in the 2009 Guide Hachette des Vins and drinks like a fine white Burgundy from a far grander appellation. 2006 was a very good vintage for white Burgundy but unfortunately they only have a very small amount left so snap it up while you can.

About Saint-Véran
This appellation, created in 1971 for white Chardonnay wines of Southern Burgundy, borders Pouilly-Fuisse and Pouilly-Vinzelles, as well as Macon, to which it is superior. Auberon Waugh regularly sang the praises of St-Véran as the best way to drink really good white Burgundy relatively cheaply.
