The Castello di Potentino Mixed Case
Perched dramatically at the top of a hill, Castello di Potentino overlooks a tiny patchwork-quilt valley that, because of its myriad vineyards, fruit trees and olives, is known as the ‘Golden Basin’. In the background looms the impressive Monte Amiata, the Mount Olympus of Etruscans.
Graham C Greene acquired this beautiful Etruscan castle in 1999 as a dilapidated and overgrown ruin. He has since restored it to its former glory and now, under the guidance of talented winemaker Charlotte Horton, Potentinois fast becoming one of the stand-out wine producers in the region. Guida dell’ Espresso, the main Italian wine guide, awarded the Sacromonte the maximum 5 bottles, listing it as one of their top 12 wines in Tuscany 2010, and Decanter Magazine has given several of their vintages 4 stars.’
4 bottles of Castello di Potentino ‘Lyncurio’ IGT Toscana 2009
A very small parcel of the first vintage of their white wine. Something of an anomaly, it is a white wine made from 100% Pinot Noir. The result is a delicious, complex, faintly pink wine that, because of the limited production, is sure to sell out very quickly.
4 bottles of Castello di Potentino ‘Sacromonte’ Montecucco Rosso 2005
Wonderfully floral, spiced and elegant Sangiovese that has been a real hit with customers and journalists alike. Charlotte recommends it with anything rich enough to stand up to the robust flavour—such as roast game, stew or a simple spaghetti bolognaise. “Streets ahead of any Chianti at this price”— Andrew Neather, Evening Standard
4 bottles of Castello di Potentino ‘Piropo’ IGT Toscana 2007
A delicious and complex Super Tuscan blended from Pinot Noir, Sangiovese and Alicante. The Guida dell’ Espresso | Vini D’Italia 2009 awarded it 17.5/20, describing it as “kaleidoscopic, fresh, aromatic.”
