Château Pedesclaux
5th Growth, Pauillac, Bordeaux

2005

Limited Quantities

A small parcel of the new star of the Bordeaux 2005 vintage, this (until now) little known 5th growth Pauillac was ranked by a recent Decanter blind tasting (Steven Spurrier + 3 Masters of Wine) of all the major 2005 classified growths as in the top three along with Mouton Rothschild (£6500 a case) and Pichon Baron (£1050 a case), and above the other 1st growths. This must be the claret bargain of the year at £299.40 a case. Since we first bought the wine in early March, the price ex Château has gone up by 60%! Limited quantities only—this will go very quickly.

75cl Bottle: £27.95 | Case of 12: £335.40

Our tasting notes
From a Decanter tasting note which says it better than we could...'Strong and serious with intense cassis and black olive aromas. Powererful and strapping with impressive concentration of black fruit. Rich and sweet, so much so that the tannins are more than matched by the considerable fruit. Dense and finely balanced. Big yet no hard edges and this can be drunk early or kept for 10 years+'. This is very serious wine that FVD will be following in the future—providing the price remains reasonable.

About Château Pedesclaux
Château Pedesclaux lies on a chalky plateau overlooking the town of Pauillac and among such illustrious Châteaux as Mouton Rothschild, Lafite Rothschild and Pontet Canet. It was founded at the beginning of the 19th century by Mr. Urbain Pierre Pedesclaux, a well-known wine broker in Bordeaux, and was then classified in 1855 as a 5th Growth Grand Cru Classé. It is now in the hands of the Jugla family who, of late, have invested huge amounts of money and effort into the development of the chateau and the vines—the result now speaks for itself.
