Roger Sauvestre, Mercurey | Burgundy
2000
A fantastic, mature Chardonnay from the Cote Challonaise region of Burgundy, where the Mercurey wines stand alone in both quality and price. Stunning value for such a rich and mature white Burgundy—the grower refers to it as his 'baby Puligny Monrachet.' A perfect festive treat.

About Mercurey
It is the most important village in the Cote Chalonnaise district of Burgundy. Most of the production is Pinot Noir but a small quantity of unusually scented white wine from Chardonnay is also made.
The Sauvestre's vineyard is south-facing with a soil composition similar to the Cote de Beaune, but the vineyards here tend to be more scattered meaning there is more variablility in the vines and hence complexity in the wine.
