Roger Sauvestre, Savigny–les–Beaune | Burgundy
1999
A parcel of fully mature red Burgundy from the spectacular '99 vintage, which Jancis Robinson described as "the most exciting I can ever remember tasting." Savigny–les–Beaune is a constant source of excellent, affordable pinot noir and this wine shows why. Wonderful value for a wine of this quality, maturity and vintage.

About Savigny–les–Beaune
Savigny–les–Beaune is a small village in northern Burgundy, north west of Beaune, the region’s wine capital, and just below Corton Charlemagne. The reds can offer fantastic value, rivaling those of Beaune itself. The area is split by the river Rhoin, with vines on the north side being grown in stonier soil and those on the southern side growing in sandy soil, producing a wine similar to that of Beaune but tending to be a little lighter. The wines were described in an engraving found in Chateau de Savigny in 1703 as "nourrissants, theologiques et morbifuges"—nourishing, theological and disease-defying.
