Romain Bouchard Chablis 1er Cru Vau de Vey
2006
Romain's Vau de Vey Chablis is not 1er Cru quality—it is Grand Cru quality and quite simply the best 1er Cru we have ever tasted. At this price it’s a real find and bargain for all serious Chablis lovers. Very highly rated by the press—and everyone else. The only negative is that there were only 300 cases made. Not to be missed.

The Press
On the palate this is delightfully full, fruity and yet locked in the grip of that mineral and lemon acidity and bracing structure. Manages to be creamy and rich, yet at the same time pin-sharp and very long. A stunning Chablis. ’ — The Wine Gang ‘Pleasant and attractive charcoal tinge to the nose, with some lime and green fruit aromas. Finely composed and balanced palate with a crisp acidity and a fine minerality on the finish. Really drinking beautifully now.’ — Decanter Magazine —Concours de Mâcon 2008 (France): Gold Medal —Decanter ‘Splash Out’ Wine of the MonthOur tasting notes
THE stand out 1er Cru from a long tasting trip around Chablis, exceeding expectations on every front. Pale, golden lemon colour with a rich, firm nose with hints of honeyed nectarines & passion fruit. A very full, soft & expressive, creamy mineral flavour. Good balance & acidity. A well made and delicious wine.Wine data

About Romain Bouchard:
Romain Bouchard learnt his trade from his father, the renowned Chablis producer Pascal Bouchard. In 2005 he took over the over the small but perfectly located Chablis estate Domaine de la Grande Chaume and immediately started to introduce rigorous organic viticultural methods. Everything is now done by hand, no chemical products are applied in the vines and only natural products (copper and sulphur) and plant extracts (nettles, field horsetail, wicker etc) are used. With his family pedigree and the care and passion he puts into his winemaking Romain is certainly a producer to watch- this is superb Chablis that will surely develop a real following in the UK.
