2019 Condrieu Deponcins, Domaine François Villard

François' most powerful and complex cuvée shines once again in 2019; super-expressive with rich apricot, Asian spices, and a smoky minerality, it is beautifuly seductive yet serious too. Intense, full-bodied, with a lingering finish, this is an exceptionally fine Condrieu, which will reward drinkers on any occasion, but especially if paired with Salmon en Croûte.

A former chef turned vinegrower about 3 decades ago, François has quickly built an impressive (and deserved) following from his base in Condrieu. Expect wines of impressive purity and both added depth and spicy complexity from his use of small volumes of intensely flavoured, botrytis-affected grapes.
