"If you don’t need champagne but do need first-class bubbles, then the 2017 Cave de Lugny Crémant de Bourgogne 'Émérite' is the one. Made in the champagne method from Chardonnay/Pinot Noir, it’s stunning quality at a derisory price. I’ve lost count of how often I’ve banged on about it, served it, drunk it and begged for more."
Jonathan Ray, The Spectator Magazine
The quality of Crémant de Bourgogne has never been better - with strong competition from Limoux, the Loire and Alsace, this is arguably Frances finest fizz outside Champagne. The vintage Émérite cuvée from the excellent Cave de Lugny is one of the best around, and were delighted to note that Decanter magazine concurs:
Acacia, honeysuckle, white flowers and honeyed citrus fruit on the nose, tarte au citron and buttery pastry notes, really inviting. Well-rounded and succulent palate, juicy lemons and limes, crisp green apples and ripe pears. Good vibrancy and density with drive, refined and harmonious incredibly moreish. An excellent time to drink this as a far superior alternative to cheap Champagne. Made by the highly-rated Cave de Lugny cooperative in southern Burgundy. Drink 2021-2026. 93 pts., Georgina Hindle, decanter.com (previous vintage).
Made from the same grape varieties and using the same techniques as their neighbours in Champagne, but from vineyards located in the Burgundy region, good crémant is a very smart buy, and the new 2017 vintage we have just received is absolutely delicious.

Excellent, a regular in our house where my wife has a superb palate and prefers this to almost all champagnes (previous vintage)
Really excellent and thoroughly enjoyed by all who tasted it - a brilliant alternative to champagne. In my view preferable! (previous vintage)
An amazing sparkling wine. Worth exploring. It's dry but drinkable (previous vintage)
