We have the return of a bestselling classic, our everyday drinking claret, Château Calet 2009. This rich and polished wine from a fantastic Bordeaux vintage is a complete bargain and Jonathan Ray, lead wine critic from The Spectator magazine, agrees, writing “congratulate yourself on having nabbed a bargain”.

Château Calet is situated in Blaye, a stone's throw from Pauillac and Saint-Julien. The palate shows lovely, polished fruit, plump and plummy with silky tannins and tremendous length. All in all, this excellent balance produces a beautifully harmonious wine. It is drinking beautifully now and will continue to do so for at least a year.

We are very pleased with the return of this wine. We have stock of our other favourites coming back into our warehouse in the next few weeks. Our thanks to our winemakers and growers for working so well with FromVineyardsDirect under new ownership.

This wine is available for immediate dispatch.

Our Tasting Notes

The result of a legendary vintage and made almost entirely from Merlot grapes, this is a profound, red-hued wine. The nose unveils generous aromas of overripe blackcurrant, stewed red fruit and prune with earthy, toasty notes. The ripened grapes impart a creamy, dense and silky texture to an elegant palate. Dense, delicately oaked tannins provide structure and length. Drinking beautifully now and for at least the next year.

About

Château Calet was taken over some years ago by the Bayle-Carreau family, who replanted the entire vineyard. The owners have poured all their know-how and passion into making Château Calet one of the rising stars of the AOC Blaye-Côtes de Bordeaux. The location overlooks the Gironde estuary and on what counts, in Bordeaux, as hillside. This inclined exposure and the excellent soil gives us a healthy and mature crop.
