Château Méaume, Réserve du Château, Bordeaux Supérieur 2018 IN BOND

75cl bottle: £6.25

Case of 12 75cl bottles: £75.00

At only £6.25 a bottle in bond this is the 2018 en primeur bargain of the vintage.

Château Méaume makes Réserve du Château only in the best vintage years and 2018 was one of those. We sadly weren’t able to offer 2017 last year due to frost, so much like those at the Château, we breathed a sigh of relief when we discovered that quantities were good and even better, that the weather conditions in 2018 meant that Méaume produced a corker of a vintage. We have been able to secure a good allocation for customers as this is one of our most exciting offerings of the year.

Our friends Alan and Sue have moved on with this 2018 being their final vintage. The Château remains in the family though, as cousins Mark and Sandra Johnson-Hill are the new proprietors. The 2018, we feel, is a fitting tribute to everything Alan has achieved – it is from a plot of his oldest merlot and is a rich, succulent, beautifully balanced wine that will keep all of us well stocked up for the next 10 years.

Duty and VAT will be payable when the wine arrives in the UK, expected in late 2020.

Our Tasting Notes

Dark and brooding rich berry fruit with subtle hints of chocolate, tobacco, ginger and vanilla. Fresh, lively with rounded, soft tannins and wonderful balance here. Drink 2020-2030

Set in beautiful countryside, 15 kilometres from the famous wine districts of St Émilion and Pomerol, Château Méaume represents a striking example of how ancient tradition and modern technology can combine in the making of a magnificent wine. The property has been well known in France for many centuries and was once the country residence of Louis XIV's bodyguard - the Chevalier de la Croix Maron, whose wine-making family are credited as having invented the process of making cognac brandy.
