Château Moulin Eyquem, Côtes de Bourg 2000

Bordeaux

We have just discovered a unique and very special parcel of mature Claret from the legendary 2000 vintage at the remarkable price of only £12.95 a bottle. Chateau Moulin Eyquem is owned by the Mostermans family and the vineyards are on the south-facing slopes overlooking the Dordogne – the best there is in the Cotes de Bourg. The wine is delightfully fresh with excellent complex ripe fruit flavours that comes with 15+ years from the exceptional 2000 vintage. It is fully mature and should be drunk over the next 2-3 years. A tremendous bargain.

Our Tasting Notes

Aromas of rich spicy fruit with a hint of tobacco, remarkably fresh complex flavours with good acuidity and balance. This is what mature claret is all about and demonstrates that you don’t have to be Chateau Latour to make very good wine in a great vintage year.

About

This estate, once the property of the marquis of Marsillac, is one of the most ancient vineyards of the Côtes de Bourg. Its unbroken 20-hectare vineyard extends over the plateau as well as the terraces down the south and south-east slopes of the hillsides, towards the Dordogne river. From here visitors are treated to a breathtaking and grandiose panorama over the city and region of Bordeaux as well as over the Médoc vineyards (on the opposite bank of the river). This altitude makes Château Moulin Eyquem special, as does the clay-gravel or clay-limestone soil. The estate was taken over in 1998 by the Mostermans family, who have carried out extensive investments to maintain their property among the leaders of the appellation.
