Château Ramafort, Cru Bourgeois, Médoc, Bordeaux 2010

NEW

Château Ramafort 2010 is undoubtedly our buy and bargain of the year. The Bordelais are raving about the recent release of this 2010 from this incredible property just round the corner from Pauillac and St Estephe, with its association with arguably the most impressive of all Pauillac estates (see rather reminiscent label). We managed to secure a healthy, exclusive UK allocation when it was released just last month while we were in Bordeaux and this is one of the most exciting releases in the history of From Vineyards Direct.

We are offering this wine on a pre-shipment basis for our customers at a discounted price of £16.95 (down from £17.95) before it arrives with us early-July. Buy, buy, buy.

The Château which previously belonged to Château Lafite is on the highest plateau in the Médoc just north of Saint-Estèphe. The vineyards are blessed with pebbles and gravel (for the cabernet) and limestone (for the merlot) terroir – as good as it gets! Underneath the vineyards is a magnificent underground ‘Cathedral‘, the largest in the Médoc, where the château is able to store and age a full ten vintages of their wine in perfect conditions until they are released onto the market.

The Château is run with passion by Magali Guyon who was previously the winemaker at Château Lynch Bages. Ramafort’s 2010 from this great vintage year is a revelation. It has delicious ripe fruit and a glorious long finish – everything is in balance and it is approaching peak maturity with at least another 5 years ahead of it

All in all, a mature claret of the highest quality at only £16.95 per bottle. Fill your boots!

*This is a pre-shipment offer. Secure your case before the wine arrives in our warehouse early-July.

Our Tasting Notes

A blend of 50% merlot and 50% cabernet sauvignon. Dense deep red colour in the glass. The nose is full of smooth and rich red berries and black fruit - cherry, blueberry and blackberries. The palette is wonderful with a full-body and weight to it, while incorporating gorgeous softened tannins after time in bottle. The style is clean with structure and a classic Médoc feel to it. There are very subtle chocolate and toasty toffee notes from the oak along with a gorgeous lengthy finish. Perfect now or hold over the next 5 years.

About

This award-winning Cru Bourgeois property has been holding discussions regarding the release of this 2010 vintage for some time.

Vines have an average age of 35 years which deliver rich and complex wines with minimal intervention. Winemaker, Magali Guyon, is a great believer in sustainable agriculture, and the estate is Terra Vitis certified. What is truly unique about the property is the magnificent underground 'cathedral', hidden 10 meters below the vines. This allows the estate to age over 10 vintages underground in perfect conditions with no temperature variation. The wines are then released during their optimum drinking period, and enjoyed in specialist wine shops and restaurants in over 40 countries around the world. From Vineyards Direct are the exclusive UK partner for Château Ramafort.
