Pernand 1er Cru Île des Vergelesses, Domaine Chandon de Briailles 2014

A wonderful, rare and tiny parcel of Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru from a tiny 3 hectare vineyard just beneath the Corton Hill which is home to the most famous Côte de Beaune Burgundies.

Domaine Chandon de Briailles 1er Cru, Île des Vergelesses 2014 is deliciously delicate with elegant intense Pinot fruit flavours and fine tannins – this is what great red Burgundy is all about and the price is brilliant for the quality here. The wine is approachable now and has a good 10 years ahead of it. Unfortunately, we have only 8 cases (6x75cl) available.

Our Tasting Notes

The wine is of great aromatic finesse on the nose, very intense, and develops scents of red fruits tending to liquorice and spices. Its structure is straight-line and tannic; it possesses great power and long persistence on the palate.

The château at this domaine must be one of the grandest in the region and the brother and sister team, Claude and François, is a winning one. They have both been instrumental in increasing the quality of the wines at this very traditional domaine. The domaine is now officially certified biodynamic with their methods of viticulture and vinification. They use whole bunch fermentation and open tank fermentation in old barrels. The winemaker, Claude, concentrates on making very traditional styles of wine, crisp and fresh and reflecting the terroir of each parcel. Soft and generous, the wines drink very well in their youth, gaining further depth and complexity with ageing.

"Very pretty nose of delicate red fruit; deceptively frail as always when very young. Lean, fresh and airy – seems light but has ample tannins and grip. Fresh acidity and good length" - 90 Points, Decanter
