Domaine de l'Ermitage is a beautifully made, pale, dry rosé from this outstanding small estate in Menetou-Salon. 100% Pinot Noir and made with the utmost attention to detail it shows exceptional class would cost a lot more if it came from neighbouring Sancerre. A very good buy.

About

A relatively small appellation in the Loire valley which is good source of keenly priced Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. The wines are very similar in style to those of Sancerre (20 miles to the North East) but with a lean, saline edge thanks to the Kimmeridgian clay soils that predominate.

"From Menetou-Salon in the Loire, Antoine de La Farge’s Domaine de l’Ermitage is outstanding." - Steven Spurrier on the 2014, Decanter

The little-known village of Menetou-Salon sits adjacent to starry Sancerre and it copies the styles of wine from its more famous-named district only at a lesser price! The hand-picked bunches of Pinot Noir which make this pretty wine are of the highest quality. It’s rare to find great Pinot rosé – this is a scintillating example." - Mathew Jukes on the 2014, Mail on Sunday

"A pale cherry-pink hue to this rosé Pinot Noir, with a very fresh cherry nose too, the elegant, cool fruit showing some nicely mineral and grassy edges, but that red fruit is the key here. In the mouth it has copious fruit sweetness; a whole fruit bowl of summer berries, but such a nice lick of acidity to add a dry, savoury grippiness to the finish, the medium-bodied, quite creamy texture finishing with fine citrus juiciness. A savoury and delightful rosé. 89/100." - Tom Cannavan of The Wine Gang on the 2014

"Pinot Noir, steely-yet-supple cool-climate Loire rosé with soft red berries, pear fruit and zippy lime zest; poised and fresh. Pure, mineral and substantial." - The Cambridge Blogger
