About

This family run estate in the Loire was sourced out by us just last month and on trying it here, it passed the tasting panel with flying colours - the Pouilly-Fumé we have been looking for! The vines are grown in limestone soil giving fantastic minerality, they are up to 65 years old - just right to portray wonderful elegance and complex flavours in the wine and after 9 months in steel vats, there is fantastic harmonization. The outcome is glorious, a crisp complex wine. No one needed to be persuaded to stock this Loire gem. Born in the nineteenth century, the family estate is located in the heart of our vineyard. They cultivate 19 hectares (45 acres) of Pouilly-Fumé (Sauvignon) and 1 hectare (2 acres) of Pouilly-sur-Loire (Chasselas) respecting ancestral traditions. The top concern of the estate is with regards to quality, they strive hard to implement and express work from the vineyard to the bottle in the development of all their wines.

"A Loire wine for those who don't like their Sauvignon Blanc too tropical or too green, this pale-coloured, mineral example has stony aromas, citrus and the vaguest suggestion of nettle. In the mouth the 65-year-old vines grown on limestone soils give a natural concentration and bit of grip, the fruit taut with melon rind and lemon peel flavours, that little stone and salts note there in the acidity of the finish." "And if classic, beautifully made, artisanal Sauvignon Blanc is your thing, then you’ll swoon over the 2016 Pouilly Fumé Les Aveillons. I’m told that FVD only sourced it a month or so ago and are struggling to hang on to stocks since it’s proved to be nothing less than catnip for their canny customers. Made with fruit from 65 year-old vines by the Millet family at Domaine de La Loge, it fair screams quality and boasts a deliciously intense mineral core fleshed out with luscious yet restrained citrus and white stone fruit flavours."
