Edwin Doran's Shiraz has everything you look for in this grape and beyond. It is juicy and peppery with spice and with a powerful punch. Undoubtedly made in that new world style, it is completely quaff-able and an extremely well put together, rich wine. 2013 vintage was awarded 4 stars by Platter!
Grapes were picked at 24 degrees from a combination of schist and granite soils. Cooled overnight to 5˚C, 80% destemmed and 20% crushed whole bunches. It is cold soaked for 4 days, where most of the extraction is done. Partially natural-fermented with post fermentation maceration of 6-8 weeks. Wine was matured in French oak for 12 months.

90 points - Tim Atkin MW

Our Tasting Notes

Punchy powerful, deep concentration of plums, blackberries and ripe strawberries with undertones of black pepper spice. This is followed by the fresh fragrance of blue violets. Juicy tannins leave your mouth craving for more. Great with duck breast or pork fillet with plum sauce and roast potatoes.

Irishman Edwin Doran first started visiting South Africa in the early 90’s when his successful school sports travel business ran their first rugby tour to Wynberg Boys High School. Head of the Wynberg governing body and father of the rugby captain, was André Badenhorst and the two men instantly found common ground over their shared love of rugby and wine. Owning a vineyard had been a dream of Edwin’s for many years and after his first meeting with André, it was clear that he had found the right person to help his dreams become reality. The farm itself, Far Horizons, is 179 hectares in the heart of one of South Africa’s most up-and-coming wine districts, Voor Paardeberg.
