El Cortijo de los Villares 2017

75cl bottle: £8.95

Case of 12 75cl bottles: £107.40

A lovely Rioja-style wine made by the 4th generation Villar family in El Cortijo at an extraordinary price. Quality like this around Rioja is hard to come by – this one is the house red of David’s wife Alex’s family at their home in Asturias.

Our Tasting Notes

The wine is a delicious blend primarily of Tempranillo and Garnacha mainly sourced from Rioja by the Villar family who have been making fine Rioja’s for 4 generations.
It has a dark red cherry colour with lively fruit, fresh with a fleshy finish. Great structure and perfect to enjoy with BBQs and red meats.

More than 100 years and four generations dedicated to the world of wine, beginning in 1870 with the opening of a small winery in El Cortijo and the purchase of some vineyards by the Villar family, where wine was pressed and sold in bulk. In 1980, the El Cortijo winery was expanded, already starting to bottle Rioja wine.
After 2000, the business settled between Logroño and Laguardia in Rioja and, due to great wines and strong customer support, they bought two wineries in Lapuebla de la Barca and Laguardia.
