Esterházy Classic, Pinot Noir 2016

75cl bottle: £11.95

Case of 12 75cl bottles: £143.40

From our favourite Austrian producer, we have this extremely seductive, strong and juicy Pinot Noir which is truly wonderful. Similar in style to Burgundy though at a fraction of the price, this is the perfect light and elegant summer wine to enjoy with a great number of foods. Plenty of fruit and depth of flavour, with a long finish. The Esterházy team can’t make a bad wine in our view, it seems every time we try a new wine, we end up buying it! This is delicious and great value for money.

Our Tasting Notes

Transparent ruby garnet. On the nose fine aromas like strawberries and sour cherries with hints of blood orange and marzipan. On the palate, superb elegance and delicate, silky tannins which provide a wonderful structure. Ideal as universal food companion!

The Princes Esterházy, who employed composer Haydn for 30, have made wine since the early 18th century and were one of the largest landowners in Europe until 1939. Both Empress Maria Theresa and Goethe were especially fond of Estoras wines and Haydn enjoyed them so much that he asked for his salary to be partly paid in wine. The label of their Grüner Veltliner Estoras 2010 bears the Golden Fleece, the highest chivalric order of the Burgundian kings and the Habsburg emperors, founded in 1430.

"Medium ruby colour, violet reflections, delicate brightening around edge. Fine red berry confit with hints of tobacco, a touch of orange zest, delicate cherry notes. Juicy, elegant, silky tannins, fine spicy, raspberry touch on the finish, sticks well, great food companion."- 90 points - Peter Moser, Falstaff Wine Guide 2017/2018
