Mas Carlot Blanc, Cuvée Tradition, Costières de Nîmes 2019
A charming blend of Marsanne, Rousanne and Viognier from the western edge of the river Rhône. We tasted it along with a very good white Châteauneuf-du-Pape, inevitably costing much more, and it held its own. A perfect respite from the ubiquity of chardonnay and sauvignon blanc.
How does the wine taste?
Fresh and lively with ripe tropical fruits
and pear, good minerality and hints of
spice. Lovely long refreshing finish. A very
classy wine at this price.
What do the critics say?
"The 2017 Mas Carlot Blanc is right up my street. A blend of Roussanne, Marsanne and Viognier from the heart of Van Gogh country in the Costières de Nîmes, its dry but creamy, with hints of peach, honeysuckle and apricots. Natalie Blanc-Marès is widely regarded as one of the finest winemakers in the region and this is a steal."
Jonathan Ray, The Spectator Magazine (previous vintage).
