The Château du Cléray - Sauvion is located in Vallet, in the heart of Muscadet and is one of the oldest properties of Sèvre et Maine. This exceptional site is the cradle of great Muscadet with international notoriety.
Muscadet is produced from Melon de Bourgogne grapes, a distant relative of Chardonnay and was exported from Burgundy by monks in the Middle Ages under the name of ‘’Petite Bourgogne’’or ‘’Petit Melon Musqué’’. Melon de Bourgogne is the only grape used in the production of Muscadet, it is rarely grown elsewhere in France and virtually nowhere else in the world.
At Cléray, the traditions have been passed from father to son for 4 generations of wine-growers. Sauvion is one of the finest ambassadors of Muscadet. Their wines are sold in over eighty countries all over the world.

"The 2015 Muscadet Fildefer, Domaine Sauvion is the best Muscadet I’ve had in yonks; fresh, vibrant and uplifting. We’ve offered a Sauvignon Blanc from this exemplary Loire Valley producer before, but never this and I can’t recommend it highly enough. It comes in a plain, clear glass bottle with a flip lid and is very retro. Think summer picnics of baguettes, pâté and cheese, bubbling brooks, old fashioned sit-up-and-beg bicycles, straw hats and straw panniers and you get the idea." - Jonathan Ray, The Spectator, May 2017 on vintage 2015
