Sauternes 2016 (Half)
We have just received a further shipment of half-bottles of our rather special 2016 Sauternes from Bordeaux. It comes from the greatest Château of them all in Sauternes that is recognised as the finest sweet producer that exists. The wine is incredibly expensive to make with families spanning generations looking after just a few rows of vines and picking the botrytis gapes from each vine up to 10 times each harvest perfection that no one else can match.
Our Sauternes comes from the 30% of their production that didnt make the final cut for the Château label (£3,000-£5,000 a case) and it would be wrong to say it is as good it is though a wonderful complex melange of summer fruits that for the price is as good as it gets superlatives abound.
A golden hue of aromatic exotic fruit and citrus flavours. Complex, round and well balanced with a long and lingering finish that shows off its immense pedigree. Already delicious - it will evolve over many years to come.
