Château Saint-Nicolas, Fronsac 1998
We have sold several hundred cases of the delightfully mature Château Saint-Nicolas 1998 over the last 12 months and are now coming to the end of our stock, and there is no more (we have less than 50 cases left).
Here’s why everyone scrambles for cases of the glorious 1998 claret immediately it arrives at our warehouse:
Fronsac is the most undervalued appellation for high quality wines in Bordeaux - hence under £20 for a wine that has been in bottle for 20 years. It is where most of famous Bordelais wine makers such as Michel Rolland have their own vineyards, and they should know.
1998 was a great and very successful vintage on the Right Bank.
Château Saint-Nicolas vineyards are some of the best terroir in Fronsac and the château is run with passion, prioritising quality above all else.
It is the perfect wine for claret lovers with a taste for mature merlot with soft burnt berry fruit flavours with an undertone of leather, spice and tobacco.
How long will it last? At least another 2-3 years, possibly longer. My advice having re-tasted it last week is to open the bottle 15-30 minutes before you drink it and finish it off on the day you open it which shouldn’t be a problem!
