About

The Château du Cléray is located in Vallet, in the heart of Muscadet and is one of the oldest properties of Sèvre et Maine. This exceptional site is the cradle of great Muscadet with international notoriety. Muscadet is produced from Melon de Bourgogne grapes, a distant relative of Chardonnay and was exported from Burgundy by monks in the Middle Ages under the name of ‘’Petite Bourgogne’’or ‘’Petit Melon Musqué’’. Melon de Bourgogne is the only grape used in the production of Muscadet, it is rarely grown elsewhere in France and virtually nowhere else in the world. At Cléray, the traditions have been passed from father to son for 4 generations of wine-growers.

"The original home of the Sauvion family, this estate has produced a ripe generous style of wine with fresh fragrant aromas. It has a soft texture with green-apple fruits right up front. Drink this ripe crisp wine now. 89 points" - The Wine Enthusiast on vintage 2016

"The Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine Château du Cléray 2017, from a fourth generation family estate, has a beautiful greenish colour, intriguing stoniness on the nose and lively fruit with a prickle of CO2. Harry Eyres - Country Life
