Rasteau Cuvée Marc, Domaine des Grands Bois 2014
Rasteau has long been a favourite of mine. Richer still, this wine is grenache, syrah and mourvèdre, and ages beautifully. Marc and Mireille Besnardeau of Domaine Les Grands Bois are fourth generation small family growers who have been organic or biologique since 2011. They were introduced to us by the owner of the best bistro in the village of Cairanne, whose house wines they provide.
The domaine was established in 1929 by Albert Farjon. Mireille Besnardeau is a descendant of him. She and her husband became owners in 1994. At that time all the production was sold to negociant but from 1997 the first bottling of wine was made. The next year new cellars were established and some fields were replanted with Syrah and Mourvèdre. In 1998 was bought vineyards in Rasteau and Cairanne.
