Ronan by Clinet 2015 is close to its optimum maturity - a beautiful, generous claret with bags of jammy merlot fruit with a hint of cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc to add to its complexity - and from a 10/10 vintage. Great value for money here.
Ronan Laborde, the owner of Château Clinet, one of Pomerol's finest estates, decided 10 years ago to make a wine as close as he could to a Pomerol from neighbouring appellations at a very much lower price than Pomerol itself commands. With the winemaking team from Clinet, he set about the task and has established a much envied reputation for Ronan by Clinet. Also available in bottles.
How does the wine taste?
Deep red ruby with a rich and powerful fruit-driven nose. Great concentration, a long finish and drinking well already. Very well made, as you would expect from Château Clinet.
What do the critics think?
"Quite a bargain this wine, coming from the director of the famous Pomerol estate Château Clinet. The 100% Merlot Bordeaux AOC made is silky-smooth claret with both black cherry and ripe plum on tea plate, balanced out by refreshing acidity. A juicy wine that invites drinking. One of my favorites from this blind tasting".

"Made entirely from Merlot, the 2014 Ronan by Clinet is really very classy, from the same winemaking team who produce the celebrated grand vin of Château Clinet, one of the finest of all Pomerol estates. The fruit comes from just outside Pomerol and the wine is thus classified as AC Bordeaux rather than anything grander and has a very approachable price tag as a result. Silky smooth and luscious with plenty of bramble fruit and a teasingly savoury finish, theres still a touch of tannin here but nothing that a quick sluice into a jug or decanter wont remedy."
