Château Trillol, AOC Corbières Cucugnan, Languedoc 2014

Dispatched from w/c 10th February.

Château Trillol is one of the stars of Corbières, the Languedoc's most prestigious appellation. The vineyards are owned by and the wine is made with consummate skill by our friends, the Sichel family (Château Angludet and Palmer) winning countless awards including the Prix d'Excellence in the Concours Général Agricole, the highest award in France for food and wine.

The 2014 vintage is full bodied, fruit driven with bags of flavour and drinking perfectly now. If you haven't tried it you should.

Tasting note: Each glass gives deep young colour, with a dense, youthful smoky oak flavour. Very silky tannins give this wine a rounded and elegant finish with lots of depth and length. As a result it is an authentic wine that is packed with character and a strong sense of place.

Corbières is the largest appellation in the Languedoc-Roussillon and an area that has been quietly making headway over the last twenty years with some of the vines at 80 years old. Under vine since Roman times you can now find exceptionally good wines here and often at surprisingly low prices. 95 % of production is red but there is a tiny amount of rosé and white to be found as well. High in the hills of the Corbières, in a stunning corner of south west France, Château Trillol has been the Sichel family property since 1990. At 400m above sea level, the vineyard is located in two of the Corbières terroirs: Termenès and Quéribus. Here the local grape varieties, Grenache, Syrah and Carignan (harvested by hand), result in an authentic wine that is packed with character and a strong sense of place.

"Complex nuances of ripe fruits and underbrush. Concentrated, full bodied and rounded on the palate". - Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2012

"A blend of grenache, carignan and syrah, this is deliciously focused with a savoury twist to the vibrant raspberry and black cherry fruit. The high altitude of these vineyards helps keep freshness and structure in the wine." - Jamie Goode, Sunday Express

Silver medal - Decanter World Wine Awards 2017 - "My grandfather fell in love with this place nearly 30 years ago. Everything here appealed to him: the terroir, the beauty of the place, its history, its authenticity and the bold idea of making outstanding wines. My father and uncles have pursued his dream. I love opening a bottle of Trillol to share with my friends." - Max Sichel
