This is a taut youthful wine at this very early stage in its development, we know that 2018 was a fantastic and Montrose produce beautiful wines and the Dame de Montrose is no exception.

In the glass it's dark and intense, black cherry, violets, juicy, sweet ripe fruit is tightly bound together a post tasting breath hints at the hidden complexity that lies just beneath the surface. You can sense the quality and complexity is there only for now teasingly tucked just out of reach, masked by the intense fruit and grippy structure for a few more years. Tuck this wooden case away and crack open in another 4-5 years time at which point it will be mightily impressive, as will the price!

"Very pretty blackcurrants and blueberries with floral undertones, following through to a full body with layers of ripe, polished tannins and a rich, flavorful finish. Needs time to come around and show itself."
94/100pt Drink from 2025 | James Suckling
"The 2018 La Dame de Montrose has a sweet black cherry and creme de cassis scented bouquet, scents of violet developing in the glass. It is like an exaggerated version of the previous vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with thick tannin. There is real volume and density to this La Dame de Montrose, the Cabernet Sauvignon expressive and imparting a graphite like note, despite being proportionately less than the Merlot in the blend. This is a very well crafted La Dame de Montrose that is going to give 15 to 20 years of drinking pleasure."
90-92/100 | Neal Martin - Vinous
"52% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot. Barrel sample. Black-cherry colour with black core. Fragrant with violets and cassis. So aromatic. Very fine tannins, many layered, dry but not at all obstreperous. Rich in the darkest of rocky black fruit, really ambitious and successful. Deep, long and remarkably juicy. Almost silky on the finish."
