Saint-Émilion 2017

75cl bottle: £22.95 £21.95

Case of 12 75cl bottles: £275.40 £263.40

Our 2017 is from one of the top Premier Grand Cru Classé properties of St-Émilion which is as good as it gets. The wine is predominantly merlot with a hint of cabernet franc from grapes grown on the best south facing slopes at the top of the St-Émilion plateau. As a result, it is forward and beginning to drink well already (if you decant) and it will improve and has a good 7-10 years at least ahead of it.

The wine has wonderful dark berry fruit flavours, angelic elegance with great structure & balance – a wine of enormous class. The Château label fetches around £3750 a case duty paid. Buy as much as you can afford...

Note: This wine was picked up in Bordeaux recently and will be with us next week and dispatching week commencing 21st November.

Our Tasting Notes

Restrained class & power here that develops in the glass. Rich red berry fruit with lots of complexity and just the right amount of new oak. The Merlot is deliciously ripe & blends well with fragrance of the Cabernet Franc. Young but already showing its immense class. We recommend you open the wine an hour in advance or decant it.

Saint-Émilion is situated on the right bank of the Dordogne, and as well as being one of the largest producers of wine in Bordeaux, is home to some of the finest Châteaux in the region. Its two first growths command prices on a par with the most sought after wines in France. The Merlot grape is king here although Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon are also grown.
