Bourgogne Rouge, Domaine du Bicheron 2021
I visited the family behind Domaine de Bicheron's Macon-Péronne earlier this year. They make our best-selling white burgundy and we tasted through the range together when I was there. The Bourgogne Pinot Noir was an absolute standout, and my notes from the visit read we MUST add this to the range.
Really good, well-priced Bourgogne rouge is pretty hard to find, but Bicherons delivers quality and textbook pinot noir character in spades.
Made from 50 year old vines, the 2021 manages to combine exuberant red fruit with classic pinot perfume. Plush, polished and supple on the palate- so ripe, and very easy to drink. Eight months ageing in old oak barrels adds a note of spice to the sweetish berry fruits. Just the right amount of tannin, and a mouth-watering finish.
