Saint-Estèphe 2011

Bordeaux

This sumptuous wine was declassified from this most romantic Third Growth Saint-Estèphe, whose origins go back to Roman times. The sandy gravel & iron-enriched limestone terroir give rich, mineral flavours to this most impressive forward and approachable wine. It will provide immense quality drinking pleasure over the next 5-6 years.

Our Tasting Notes

A velvety mouth feel is accompanied by plenty of plummy red fruit character, with cherry and damson, as well as background notes of cedar and vanilla. This is a fruit driven claret but with the softness, balance and complexity of a much more expensive wine.

Wine Data

About

This wine originates from the most northerly of the left bank communes, with Pauillac on its southern border. The top wines from St-Estèphe are capable of matching the very best that Bordeaux has to offer. Occasionally austere in their youth, they are known for their longevity and the water retaining clay in the soil means that this is a commune that does better than most in dry vintages.

"The 2011 St. Estephe is from a famous 3rd Growth and one close to the heart of many a Bordeaux lover. Although firmly structured, there is plenty of appealing, upfront, dark stone fruit on the palate and a long, long finish." - Jonathan Ray, The Spectator
