This is a must try for our Bordeaux dry white fans as Château Le Grand Verdus is a gorgeous blend of sauvignon blanc, sémillon and muscadelle blended by this family estate who have owned this property since 1810. This represents 'tip top' value for money at £10.95 and is the perfect summer white to pair with salads and seafood. The Entre-Deux-Mers is well-known for crafting fantastically affordable dry white wines, but we were bowled over when we compared price and quality here.

The wine has been awarded 90 points by Decanter before and the 10% of Muscadelle in the blend really gives this wine an extra dimension and purity of fruit. Fantastic and delicious.

Our Tasting Notes

Fresh, bright and enticingly aromatic. It is seductive, with delightful fruity hints of white flowers, peaches and a lingering mineral intensity. Enjoy over the next two years plus as an aperitif, with summer salads, classical seafood, shellfish or goat’s cheese.

About

Vineyards of Grand Verdus are blessed with exceptional terroir and micro-climate and benefit from unusual topography in Bordeaux. Variations of altitude create a unique patchwork of soils. They are alternatively composed of limestone, clay and smooth riverbeds gravels. The family take great pride in the health of the soils and preservation of the vines which results in a wine of greater depth, aroma and personality. During the harvest, vines are picked at nighttime to maintain maximum fruit flavors and acid balance. Individual berries are selected on a sorting table, light maceration, light pneumatic pressing, racking before stainless steel fermentation with selected yeast at 16-18°C. Aged in stainless steel tanks, with limited sulfites additions, to reduce exposure to oxidation, after resting on fermentation lies for 5 months.
