Montagny 1er Cru, Domaine Des Vignes Bleues 2016
This Montagny is a new find from the Côte Chalonnaise, one of those small Burgundy appellations, like Saint-Veran and Rully, where it is still possible to find remarkable white Burgundies well under £20. Montagny is one of the smallest, with just over 700 acres and makes only white wine.
This 1er Cru Domaine Des Vignes Bleues 2016 is a really good example. 2016 is the third great white Burgundy vintage in a row and is drinking beautifully now. In times like these, a glass of good Montagny really lifts the spirits as a summer aperitif or with food.
Tasting Notes:
This boutique vineyard (only 14 acres) has made a very rich, smooth and creamy Montagny with a long, persistent finish. A good example of why Burgundy makes the best chardonnay in the world even from a minor appellation and at this price level.
