Pouilly-Vinzelles 'En Paradis', Louis Latour 2019
We have just received the very fine 2019 vintage of our favourite white Burgundy from Maison Louis Latour. There's no oak used, but through extended lees aging of fruit from old, low-yielding vines, this Pouilly-Vinzelles offers a texture and complexity of flavour that few can match.
The vineyards surround the village of Vinzelles, where vines have been growing since the Gallo-Roman era on south facing slopes and on a terroir of limestone, giving the wine exceptional power and minerality.
There's a pale golden hue in the glass which glints in the sun, with aromas of summer blossom, white peach, hints of apricot and citrus. The palate is beautifully weighted with exotic fruit, citrus and a hint of brioche all jostling for position evolving to reveal the lightest touch of vanilla and pineapple. The finish is dry and precise with the texture and weight balanced with a refreshing citrus zing which tempts you back to another taste. This is what the very best white Burgundies from the Mâconnais should taste like.
