Mas Carlot Blanc, Cuvée Tradition, Costières de Nîmes 2017
Featured in The Spectator | £10.95 down to £10.45
This is a very classy white at this price - Mas Carlot Blanc is a blend of marsanne, rousanne and viognier and a welcome alternative to chardonnay and sauvignon blanc, fresh and lively with ripe tropical fruits.
The estate or 'Mas' is run by husband and wife team Cyril and Nathalie, 7th generation of 'vignerons'. To me this is a perfect example of a wine costing little more than £10, which gives as much pleasure to drink as many more famous names that cost three or four times the price.
"The 2017 Mas Carlot Blanc is right up my street. A blend of Roussanne, Marsanne and Viognier from the heart of Van Gogh country in the Costières de Nîmes, it’s dry but creamy, with hints of peach, honeysuckle and apricots. Natalie Blanc-Marès is widely regarded as one of the finest winemakers in the region and this is a steal." - Jonathan Ray, The Spectator Magazine
Fresh and lively with ripe tropical fruits and pear, good minerality and hints of spice. Lovely long refreshing finish.
