A classic Chablis from vines grown on the famous Portlandian and Kimmeridgian soil with the marine minerality we all expect in a fine Chablis. I drink it with oysters or smoked salmon and often prefer it with foie gras to sauternes. This is from the steep slopes on one of the westernmost Premiers Crus of Chablis, benefitting from the cooler morning sun.

Domaine de la Motte is a family-run winery founded in 1950 now overseen by Bernard Michaut and his son Adrien. Their wines are a reflection of the terroir and the benchmark for the region and you may be familiar with their Premier Cru Beauroy that we have offered in the past.

How does the wine taste? Customer Reviews (0)
This is a smart and stylish Premier Cru Chablis, golden in colour, with a perfumed, expressive nose. Lovely balance of richness and intensity with bright citrus freshness. Lots going on here - very impressive.

"...this from 40-year-old Chablis vines on a family Domaine. It has seen some oak, that helping give a touch of depth to the colour, and just the gentlest nutty, almondy aspect on the nose. Otherwise, fruit is pristine and showing a little flintiness too. In the mouth it's a beautifully poised Chablis, hinting at nectarine ripeness on the mid-palate, but that's a fleeting moment as the sweep of juicy citrus etched with saline notes extends the finish."
Tom Cannavan, WINE-PAGES.COM
"The 2020 Domaine de la Motte Chablis 1er Cru Vau-Ligneau, on the other hand, has complexity in spades. Produced by the Michaut family from 40-year-old estate vines in the village of Beine, the wine is partially oak-aged and undergoes malolactic fermentation, leaving it full and long with white stone fruit, whispers of honey and cream and a touch of fresh apple."
Jonathan Ray, The Spectator Magazine
