‘Piropo’ Castello di Potentino, IGT Toscana 2015

75cl bottle: £19.95

Case of 12 75cl bottles: £239.40

This is delicious and complex wine made by Charlotte Horton of Castello di Potentino, entirely from Pinot Noir. A very serious, oak aged wine which has a long life ahead of it and gives excellent value for money. The land lies in a sheltered valley used since Etruscan times for the production of wine, it benefits from volcanic terroir and a micro-climate which produces this brilliant depth to the Pinot Noir. Piropo is the gemstone pyrope, a rare type of garnet which has a purple tonality and was used as a poetic metaphor for wine from Tuscany by Renaissance writers. A top FVD recommendation.

Our Tasting Notes

Dark ruby colour. Wonderful nose of blackcurrants, cherries and stewed fruits. Lovely flavours of green peppers, spice and a delicate touch of mint. The finish goes on and on. Drinking well and will provide continued enjoyment over the next 5 years. Perfect for pasta with meat sauces; delicate meats (veal, pork etc.); marinated and grilled white meats and wild fowl; salt cod and stockfish.

‘This Tuscan red is alove with cherry fruit and fresh herbs now, but could mellow and soften still more over the next half a decade.’ - David Williams, The Observer (Previous Vintage)

‘Rounded, deep cherry fruit. Lushness to the palate, but freshness and vibrant as well, with just a nip of spice. Good length and clean.’ - Decanter Magazine (Previous Vintage)
