Château de l'Hospital, Graves Rouge 2016
My favourite great-value red Graves is Château de l'Hospital’s from the excellent 2016 vintage. It is a beautifully balanced, soft, fruit-forward, merlot-dominant claret that is now approaching its peak.
The château is a small estate in the middle of the Graves appellation - their vineyards lie on a clay and gravel topsoil with limestone underneath. A terroir that is much envied in Bordeaux as it produces a soft, rich wine with a touch of minerality. The blend is 65% merlot, 33% cabernet sauvignon with a touch of petit verdot, and the wine aged in oak for 12 months.
It has all the ingredients of an excellent claret from a great vintage. You can't go wrong here.

Absolutely agree with Esme Johnstone’s review. I don’t think it is possible to buy a better Bordeaux for the money.
