"A lovely paling brick red brim confirms the 2 decades of bottle age this wine has been afforded in Robert Ampeau's cellars, yet the aromas are still so fresh and pure. With delicate encouragement aromas lift from the glass with a notable hint of blueberry to start, evolving to fleshier, rounder dark berry fruit, with some floral elements still evident. Delightful.
The palate is delicate yet deeply complex, there's ample dark cherry, and red berry fruit still evident, now mingling with those sought after tertiary flavours; earthy notes, aged cedar wood, and a charming floral character leading to a lightly creamy-textured, long, subtle finish.
This is simply brilliant red Burgundy."

"A mix of dark ripe fruits, cherries, strawberry, plum, rich brown spice, moist soil and savory overtones give the 2001 Volnay Santenots 1er Cru remarkable aromatic depth. On the palate, the 2001 is soft and enveloping, with a nervy citrus/mineral edge driving the dark fruit. The finish is long, with residual acids and inner floral tones that linger."
