Viré-Clessé 'Quintaine', Cave de Viré 2020
Viré-Clessé was recently given its own separate appellation in recognition of its high quality wines and for featuring the best terroir in the Mâcon area. Our delicious Viré-Clessé 'Quintaine' is not only a splendid white burgundy, but also excellent value.
While we’re not in the habit of making snap decisions on new wines, our senior buyer Ben Godfrey knew straight away Quintaine was a must buy - and we all very much concurred when he presented the wine to us. It has all the flavour of a much loftier priced Côte d’Or burgundy, and exudes character and class.

Founded in 1928, the Cave de Viré is a fine co-operative of around 200 growers situated among the regions better villages north of Mâcon. In 1998, they were instrumental in establishing the eponymous Viré-Clessé appellation from the two so-named villages. Quintaine is an ancient hamlet and lieu dit between Viré and Clessé, with parcels of limestone and clay soil particularly well suited to the production of outstanding chardonnay.
