The Contino Reserva is Rioja at its very best. The tempranillo, and 10% of the increasingly fashionable, but difficult to grow graciano grapes are all grown on the limestone estate around the fine old manor house overlooking the Ebro river. No herbicides are used, only organic fertilisers to produce what is a really lovely wine and a fine alternative to good Bordeaux.
Their white Rioja (found here) from the viura grape is a full, lovely wine that will appeal to all who love good white burgundy, and to those who regret its scarcity and high price. An elegant wine with great richness and layers, delicious to drink now, and one that will also age wonderfully.

Plush, polished and sophisticated, Contino Reserva is one of the finest Riojas around. Sweet fruit, exotic spice and great depth. Very stylish.
"I gave my highest mark to a wine that should be just as easy to find: Contino Reserva 2017 Rioja - a seriously beautiful wine from CVNE's estate in Rioja Alavesa where the wines are made by the celebrated winemaker Jorge Navascués. Yet while Tesco charges £25 a bottle, this perfectly judged wine is available, according to the price comparison site Wine-searcher.com, from no fewer than three independent British retailers for less than £20 a bottle."

"And who can resist the 2017 Contino Rioja Reserva? A single vineyard blend of Tempranillo and Graciano from one of the finest of all producers, it had two years in oak and one in bottle before release and is as tasty as they come - fresh, but weighty and concentrated, and full of rich, juicy fruit and hints of liquorice."
