2005 Château Meyney, Saint-Estèphe
"Dark garnet hue. Bright and lifted with leafy, blackcurrant notes and a hint of liquorice. Smooth attack with a greater density of fruit. Tannins just that bit silkier. Adequate freshness. More poised and refined compared with the previous vintages tasted." Drink 2015-2035. James Lawther, jancisrobinson.com
2005 Château Giscours, Cru Classé Margaux
"The 2005 Giscours has far more concentration on the nose than the '04: blackberry, raspberry, cedar and crushed flowers, with hints of licorice emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with good grip, boasting plush red fruit, desiccated orange peel and brown spices. This is not a subtle Giscours, but it gives a lot of pleasure." Drink: 2024-2048. Antonio Galloni, vinous.com
2005 Château Grand-Puy Ducasse, Pauillac
"The 2005 Grand-Puy Ducasse, from magnum, has a tertiary nose with cigar smoke, lavender and old school desk aromas on the nose. It feels a bit more mature than you would expect for a 2005 but it grows on you. The palate is broad-shouldered with firm grip, well-judged acidity and a cedar-infused, sinewy finish. This is a bit uncouth but enjoyable. Tasted at the Grand-Puy Ducasse event in London." Drink 2025-2035. Neal Martin, vinous.com
2005 Château Poujeaux, Moulis-en-Médoc
"This well-known estate is now owned by Clos Fourtets Philippe Cuvelier, but the estate was owned by Jean Theil when the 2005 was conceived. This 2005 reveals a beautiful black cherry and cassis-scented nose, with a touch of spring flowers, medium to full body, and supple tannin in a sexy, lush, heady style. A sleeper of the vintage, it is already approachable and satisfying and can be drunk over the next 10-15 years." Drink 2015-2030. Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com
2005 Château La Lagune, Haut Médoc
"The 2005 La Lagune has an attractive bouquet with plenty of blackberry, raspberry, minerals and dried flowers, the oak neatly integrated. This blossoms nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine but firm tannin, just a little chewiness on the front end but considerable weight and concentration at the back. Like many 2005s there is a solid backbone to this wine, to wit, a La Lagune built for long-term ageing. There is firm grip on the finish and as such it needs another two or three years in bottle. Tasted at the La Lagune vertical at the château." Drink 2018-2032. Neal Martin, vinous.com (Feb 2018)
2005 Château Monbousquet, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
"A beautiful effort from Monbousquet, this 2005 comes across to me as one of their strongest efforts, with notes of toasty oak, black cherry and blackcurrant fruit as well as some licorice, incense and flowers. Full-bodied and opulent, this is an amazing wine from a terroir on the so-called 'wrong side' of St.-Emilion. Drink it over the next 15 or more years. It is an amazing performance." Drink 2015-2030. Robert Parker Jr., robertparker.com (June 2015)
