Racine Picpoul de Pinet, Bruno Lafon & François Chamboissier 2022
If I have in mind a plateau de fruits de mer, or a bouillabaisse - maybe a fragrant Thai fish curry, or even a dozen Colchester native oysters (when in season), then a good Picpoul de Pinet is always at the top of my list of wines to serve. With its bright tropical fruit flavours and salty, citrus-freshness it also makes a perfect aperitif. It’s no wonder Picpoul is now one of the most fashionable whites around, and a must-have for any serious restaurant wine list.
We introduced Bruno Lafon’s exceptional, food-friendly Picpoul de Pinet a couple of years ago, and it is now very much a staple of our list. A new shipment of the 2022 vintage has just arrived in our cellars, and the exceptional sunshine of last summer is evident here, with extra ripeness and intensity to add to the crisp, vibrant acidity.
This is one of the best Picpouls we have tasted - perfect for spring and summer drinking.
