Pinot Noir, Domaine de Valmoissine, Louis Latour 2020
Top up on Louis Latour’s sumptuous, Burgundian-styled 2020 Valmoissine Pinot Noir for just £13.95 a bottle - before the price rises. You could say it’s the downside of having the beautiful old Coteaux du Verdon vineyards that go into Valmoissine: after some 45 years in service, their yields are now diminishing which means that these and hectares elsewhere need replanting. To do this requires massive investment. And given what land prices in Provence have been up to lately (quite literally), it’s investment that must come from somewhere. That somewhere, to some extent, will be in Valmoissine’s pricing.
Sourced from the beautifully sunny, southern French Provençal Var region, here is pinot noir bursting ripeness of fruit and a vibrant freshness preserved by the vineyards’ altitude at 500m above sea level. Fresh, juicy, cherry and raspberry-rich fruit in a pinot that’s too easy to drink - and at today’s offered price, very easy to buy.

A very well made Pinot Noir as one would expect from Louis Later and a bargain at the price. Mellow and full of fruit flavours, plums and cherries to the fore. Goes very well with game. Deserves much better than an IGP classification.
